How many times...

We helped our friends pack up their moving truck. Note to all future movers: Never trust the rental company when they say, oh, sure you can fit a 2 bedroom apartment into that truck. We've learned this the hard (& expensive after multiple trips) way. So when Erin mentioned the truck, I thought, hmmm, hope it's big enough.

The truck was packed (not efficiently). The guy directing the packing (a relative) filled the front with boxes, then tried to add furniture. Hmmm...half the furniture didn't fit. Unload the truck and reload it, this time putting large furniture in and filling in around it. Meanwhile Erin scurried around, pulling aside boxes and furniture that was not necessary. After the second reload and filling the small Saturn on a trailer, there were a couple boxes, a dresser, several bookshelves and a large suitcase filled with winter clothes. They tried to get a bigger truck, but no one was answering phones at the rental company. It took several hours longer than planned and the remainder will have to be shipped out, but the truck is finally on its way west.

On a side note: We've been trying to explain to Josh that Isobel was moving very far away. When we got to their place, he wouldn't talk or look at anyone, but hid against my leg. I told him he could sit by Isobel and he ran over and scooted up on the couch next (and I mean right next) to her, where he perched happily for awhile. He was just sad that she was moving, poor kid! He also painted her a picture of the road to her new house, going "way far away" from us.
